China earthquake

A devastating earthquake hit south-western China on Monday 12 May. It is thought that more than 65,000 people may have died in the 7.9-magnitude earthquake.

What Oxfam is doing

We are responding to the earthquake through Oxfam Hong Kong which has spent around $3 million to date on emergency relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction work.

Oxfam's teams have been carrying out emergency relief projects in 17 counties and cities in Sichuan, Gansu, and Shaanxi provinces.

We have provided public health services, counselling for survivors of the earthquake, and relief supplies. Our longer-term plans are to rebuild schools and help communities better prepare for future disasters.

Oxfam Hong Kong's one month on review details what they and their partners have achieved and what their plans are for the next five years.
